Give Hope, Create Opportunities

World Homeless Day is a global initiative to raise awareness of the needs and challenges of people experiencing homelessness and to celebrate the efforts of those who are working to end it. Homelessness is a complex and urgent issue that affects thousands of people in New Zealand and millions around the world. It can happen to anyone, at any time, due to a range of factors such as losing a job, facing an illness, suffering a trauma, or falling into debt. Many of us are just 2 or 3 steps away from being homeless. In 2018 Census noted there were 510 people in Auckland living without shelter, and 2,440 people living in temporary accommodation. The 2023 Census data will be released in October 2024 and we expect this number to be even higher. The highest rates of severe housing deprivation were found in Northland, Gisborne, and Auckland. The average life expectancy of someone experiencing chronic homelessness is 55 years – 20 years less than the average New Zealander.

At the upcoming World Homeless Day, we want to share with the public the stories of people who overcame homelessness. Their stories will inspire and show the human side of this issue. To do this, we are launching a campaign created by one of our regular donors.

Our campaign captures the very essence of what we, at LIFEWISE, stand for. It conveys HOPE & OPPORTUNITY which are the underlying themes of all our services at Lifewise. It is a visual testament to our mission: to bring hope, offer support, and provide a chance for our most vulnerable whānau to transform their lives for the better.

Supporting LIFEWISE means you are helping give hope, opening doors to new opportunities, and offering a fresh start to those in need. Your generosity is crucial in helping New Zealand’s most vulnerable individuals turn their lives around and embrace a future filled with promise.
